MAIN CONTENTS OF ISO 14025-2006
Aims to provide guidelines and operating procedures for the development and use of Type III environmental declarations. Applicable to the development and use of Type III environmental declarations and their related procedures, the purpose is to promote the market supply and demand of environmentally friendly products by providing verifiable and accurate environmental information.
BASIC PRINCIPLES:
Voluntariness:
The development and use of Type III environmental declarations and their procedures are voluntary.
Life Cycle Basis:
The declaration should cover relevant environmental aspects of the entire life cycle of the product and conduct life cycle assessment (LCA) in accordance with the ISO 14040 series of standards.
Comparability:
The declaration should allow comparison of environmental performance between products with equivalent functions.
Transparency and Independence:
Ensure the transparency of the declaration and ensure the accuracy of the data through independent verification.
DECLARATION AND PROCEDURE REQUIREMENTS:
Declaration Content:
It should include organizational information, product description, product identification, procedure information, PCR identification, data validity period, life cycle assessment data, additional environmental information, etc.
Program Requirements:
Detailed provisions for the responsibilities of program operators, including developing general program instructions, managing data and documents, ensuring data consistency, and making PCR documents and statements public.
VERIFICATION AND INDEPENDENCE:
Verification Process:
Including PCR review, independent verification of LCA data and additional environmental information, and independent verification of claims.
Independence Requirements:
Verifiers and PCR review team members must be independent of the implementation and development of the claim to ensure the impartiality of the verification.
CONSUMER COMMUNICATION UNDER SPECIFIC CONDITIONS:
When the third-category environmental claim is used for business-to-consumer communication, the standard puts forward additional requirements, including the availability of the claim, providing additional explanatory materials, and ensuring third-party verification.
MODULARITY AND FLEXIBILITY:
Allowing the use of information modules (i.e., LCA data for some products or materials) to support the third-category environmental claim of a complete product increases the flexibility and practicality of the claim.
ADDITIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION :
Declarations may include other environmental related information in addition to LCA data, such as environmental management system certification, product performance data, hazard and risk assessment, etc., but specific rules must be followed to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information.
